Smart Bay Santa Teresa: Nov. 27, 2025 conference brings together institutions, research and territory in La Spezia

A conference dedicated to the evolution of the Santa Teresa Smart Bay, a strategic infrastructure for marine research, technological innovation and monitoring of Santa Teresa Bay in Lerici, was held on Nov. 27, 2025, at the Auditorium of the Eastern Ligurian Sea Port System Authority in La Spezia. The initiative, organized in collaboration with the University of Genoa, ENEA-National Agency and the Port System Authority of the Eastern Ligurian Sea, brought together institutional representatives, research organizations, innovative companies and local businesses involved in the protection and enhancement of the marine environment.
A day of discussion on research, innovation and territorial impact

The program was divided into four thematic sessions that addressed the main areas of development of Smart Bay Santa Teresa:

  • Strategic development and territorial collaborations, with contributions from local governments, Civil Defense and regional innovation actors.

  • Environmental protection and community value, with speeches devoted to marine governance, sustainability, and spillovers to coastal territories.

  • Technologies, infrastructures and monitoring networks, presenting tools, data and models useful for scientific research and continuous observation of the marine ecosystem.

  • Education, skills and future prospects., dedicated to educational applications, career paths and the role of the younger generation in the Blue Economy.

A broad, multidisciplinary network

Representatives from numerous national and international entities attended, including municipalities on the La Spezia coast, regional civil defense, European research networks, national institutes, universities, technology companies, industry professionals, and sea chain operators.
Their participation confirmed the collaborative nature of the Santa Teresa Smart Bay, designed as an open platform, capable of integrating diverse expertise and generating shared value for research, the environment, and local communities.
