EDURES in Albania: ISIG launches pilot project to strengthen resilience of education systems during crisis

The resilience of Albanian education systems was the focus of ISIG’s efforts last week with our three-day EDURES mission to Tirana and Durres. EDURES is a tool created by the Council of Europe that paves the way for a holistic approach to building resilience during emergencies and crises by envisioning a dynamic relationship between education systems and community resilience. On July 3, 2024, Tirana witnessed the official launch of the Albanian pilot project of the Council of Europe Toolkit on Education in Times of Emergency and Crisis: ISIG played a key role in this event, supporting the implementation of the toolkit in line with the Resolution adopted by the Standing Conference of European Ministers responsible for Education of the Council of Europe in September 2023. This initiative is a continuation of the high-impact project “Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania,” which involved the same schools now participating in EDURES.
The launch event set the stage for two exceptionally productive days, as the expanded EDURES working group met in Durres and Tirana on July 4 and 5. This group brought together key stakeholders and end users at both the local and national levels to adapt the EDURES toolkit for the Albanian context.
These workshops were designed to provide a practical and in-depth understanding of the EDURES components, including the conceptual framework and manual, ensuring that these tools are adapted to meet the specific needs of the Albanian educational environment. The collaboration and enthusiasm shown by all participants underscored the commitment to promoting a strong and resilient education system in Albania.
