ISIG at The Climatic Century of Nova Gorica and Gorizia symposium: an international dialogue on the sustainable future of the territory

On September 26, 2025 ISIG took part in the international symposium The Climatic Century of Nova Gorica and Gorizia, hosted at theEPIC – Interpretation Center in Nova Gorica.
The event was part of the Laboratory for the Future of Food project, one of the central initiatives of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia, and brought together experts, institutions and citizens around a crucial topic: the relationship between climate change, food production and new sustainable living patterns.

Climate change as a cultural and social challenge

The symposium explored how the changing climate is transforming not only ecosystems, but also food habits, production chains, and the daily practices of communities. The underlying question was clear: How do we prepare for a complex climate century in which collective resilience becomes critical?

ISIG’s intervention

In this context, Daniele Del Bianco, Director of ISIG, spoke with a sociological reflection dedicated to the future of community resilience in border areas.
His contribution explored some key issues:

  • The increasing exposure of communities to climate disasters and emergencies,

  • The need to strengthen cross-border cooperation,

  • the importance of social and institutional capacities to enable coordinated and informed responses to new vulnerabilities.

A perspective that emphasizes that climate risk preparedness is not just a technical issue, but more importantly a cultural, social and collaborative one.

A time for international comparison

The symposium provided an important opportunity to share visions and best practices, creating a space for dialogue between different disciplines and between the two cities sharing the title of European Capital of Culture in 2025.
The meeting showed how essential it is to work together to rethink models of coexistence and build a more sustainable, equitable and resilient future.
