On October 17 and 18, 2025 in Modena, ISIG and URBICO took part in the Smart Life Festival 2025 as partners in the European project TRACE, dedicated to rethinking mobility and urban logistics through innovation, technology and sustainability.
Two intense days of meetings and discussions, with a single goal: to imagine what tomorrow’s cities will look like and what tools we already have today to make them more accessible, efficient and inclusive.
Future mobility and logistics: the challenge for more sustainable cities
The first day, Friday, Oct. 17, was dedicated to the workshop “Future Mobility and Logistics, Between Innovation, Sustainability and Accessibility.”
Local and regional stakeholders discussed the ongoing transformations in traffic and urban delivery systems, analyzing the main challenges to make logistics cleaner, more efficient and integrated with the needs of communities.
A clear understanding emerged: sustainable mobility comes from solutions that combine new technologies, smart planning and a strong focus on urban quality of life.
Moving into the future: an open dialogue with the citizenry
On Saturday, October 18, the public workshop “Moving into the Future: innovations and connections for sustainable and inclusive mobility” was held in Modena’s Pucci Hall, a time of listening and discussion open to citizens, families, and students.
During the morning, the workshop discussed:
-
Daily needs of people moving around the city,
-
Mobility habits and perceptions of the citizenry,
-
Emerging technologies and connected systems,
-
Strategic land-use planning and confidence in innovative solutions.
It was a participatory space that brought together data, experiences and visions, putting the community at the center as the protagonist of future mobility.
TRACE demonstrations and the autonomous bike that has intrigued the city
The TRACE project’s citizen survey was also promoted during the Festival and the project’s demonstration bicycle was presented: a prototype for autonomous and connected delivery systems that rode the streets of Modena attracting curiosity and questions.
A concrete example of how urban logistics could evolve in the coming years, making deliveries more agile, clean and integrated with public space.
Innovation, participation and collaboration
The one spent in Modena was a weekend dedicated to active participation and experimentation.
Thanks to the European projects TRACE and DIVERSIFY-CCAM, the city is exploring new ways to become increasingly accessible, smart and close to people’s needs.
