Description: The CapHaz-Net project addresses, in the European context, the issue of resilience and social capacity building of communities during natural disasters. The multidisciplinary approach adopted (social sciences, natural sciences, policy making) is developed within a framework of promoting social learning. During the first phase of the project the following themes are investigated (through literature reviews and case studies): risk perception; social vulnerability; risk communication and risk education; and risk governance. During the second phase of the project these issues are explored in regional contexts (Alpine area, Central Europe, Western Europe), leading to the development of recommendations on ways and best practices of social capacity building to cope with natural disasters.
ISIG oversaw the analysis ofcase studies during the first project phase and the organization of a workshop on natural (hydrogeological) disaster management in the Alpine area.
