Content: The issue deals with predictive methods, applied to the solution of micro-and macro-problems, approached from an Italian perspective. The first part focuses on methods: the role of decision makers in participatory democracy (A. Gasparini), foresight in “intelligence” (U. Gori), results and evaluations of Delphi research (G. Marini), the function and effectiveness of panel-based and focus group (S. Arnaldi), and the reliability of forecasting models (L. Bozzo). The second part presents forecasting applied to small and/0 local problems: cross-border cooperation (E. Ferluga), vacations (M. Zago), commuting turning into emigration (A. Pacinelli), forecasting outcomes of the virtual hospital for healthy in the heart of the Mediterranean (A. Cattaneo). Finally, the third part broadens the perspective of forecasting: cultural production and its link to the national characters of Europe (M. Tessarolo); the role of conflict prevention through peace-keeping operations (M. Lozzi); governance and democracy in Europe (V. Memoli); forecasting the Europe of the future (P. Baldocci) and the reconstruction of the European Union (M. Coen).
