Content: Studies on forecasting, both as a practice used and as a scientific, empirical and conceptual quality, are not very widespread in Italy.
With this issue of Futuribili we want first of all (first part) to offer a reference on the concepts underlying forecasting science and to touch on some issues related to the study of change.
The second part combines a multiplicity of social phenomena subjected to forecasting with the methodological paths and forecasting techniques used. Following this path one realizes how the same methods used for forecasting come to order reality, if not even create the very reality of which one wants to observe “what it will be like.” Caught between these two extremes is the relationship between method and theme in the present and the future, and in the process by which the present flows into the future, through concrete cases of probable, possible and desired forecasts.
