Content: Complex scenarios of Italy are constructed, relating to five years ago, the present moment, and the next five years. The focus is particularly on the scenario valid to 2006, trying to explore how it transforms from probable to desired, in relation to four main areas: society, economy, environment, and international relations.
The result is an Italian future in which the international aspect is dominant over the domestic one, as it is aimed at the Balkans and Central and Eastern Europe and as it is included in the global strategies of European and U.S. globalization; but in which foreign companies also invest in Italy and on the other hand, northern Italian companies find it convenient to invest in the south. Other aspects of the scenario to the future concern the limitation of illegal immigration, the increased environmental awareness of Italians, but also the increase of terrorism both domestic and international and the stabilization of negative phenomena such as corruption, the Mafia and monopolistic control of the mass media.
