AFTER CHERNOBYL: ITALIAN AND BELARUSIAN VIEWS ON SOLIDARITY PROJECTS

Title: After Chernobyl: Italian and Belarusian views on solidarity projects Author: Mela Sara Year: 2009 Publisher: ISIG Pages: 101

Language: Italian

Content:After the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, the international community mobilized to assist the affected population. One of the most significant interventions was that, which in Italy took on considerable dimensions, of termporary stays with therapeutic purposes for children.
The study presented here first investigates in depth the motivations driving the activities of solidarity actors towards Belarus and the particular character – spontaneous and fragmented – of the Italian solidarity movement. Second, it seeks to understand what kind of benefits may have resulted in Belarus and what kind of impact the children’s Italian stays may have had on the country’s reality.
