Content: The research, which this report summarizes, stems from ISIG’s desire to contribute in a structured and scientific way to the current debate on the phenomenon of asylum seeker arrivals. Given the context in which ISIG traditionally operates, and since in order to extrapolate indications of general value it is necessary to start from the analysis of the particular, it was chosen to specifically investigate this phenomenon in Gorizia. This decision is also due to the fact that the phenomenon, although present in the region for many years, has touched Gorizia closely only in the last year. Through the present research, therefore, the aim is to draw a detailed picture of arrivals, investigating the profile, reasons but also future prospects of asylum seekers. The present work also aims to lay the groundwork for a more complex analysis that can see the regional ‘reception system’ itself as the protagonist, put in relation to the external stressor (i.e. immigration).
