Title: The new society created by the environment – Futuribili 1-2
Author: Beato F., Osti G., Pellizzoni L. (cur.)
Year: 2000
Publisher: Franco Angeli, Milan
Pages: 320
Language: Italian
Content: The first section addresses basic questions about the status and methods of the sociological approach to the environment, the languages and conceptual spaces necessary for the analysis of ecological problems.
The second section shows how the classical theme of planning extends from the original interest in urban and rural issues to the protection and enhancement of natural resources, and more generally to sustainability. Protected areas stand, in this sense, as a privileged place for experimentation.
The third section turns to participation, a central issue in the context of an ecological crisis that is also a crisis of efficiency and legitimacy of institutions. There are no well-established methodologies of participatory management of environmental problems in Italy: the contributions presented offer numerous hints and solicitations in this regard.
The fourth section deals with the perception and assessment of natural and technological risk. The focus is on forms and modes of social construction of risk and the processes by which public decisions are arrived at on issues characterized by great uncertainty.
