The Adriatic Area includes various but quite homogeneous ethnic groups, for historical, geographic and cultural reasons; the Republic of Macedonia shares the same characteristics. The study focuses on the main common problems encountered by minorities in some Adriatic countries and the Republic of Macedonia, such as the right to language use and the right to self-representation. The complexity of the minority situation and in the areas in question requires the use of comparative methods and different perspectives, in order to achieve a comprehensive approach that can elaborate and present the main views and lessons to be learned. The study makes use of secondary analysis of data on legislative provisions in some countries in the Adriatic area (Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro) and in the Republic of Macedonia pe propose a modelof protection of minority rights in the Balkan Peninsula.
